There are endless possibilities in the way an artist can apply paint to canvas...

Nature has given me a lifetime of beautiful subjects to paint. Whether hiking into the foothills of Colorado or sitting along the rocky shores of the New England, I have enjoyed my painting adventures. When venturing outdoors, I always carry my art supplies and camera just in case there’s something amazing that might take place such as an expanding rainbow, the drama of waves crashing onto the shore or the landing of a butterfly pumping it’s wings before flight.

From Plein Air to Studio

Part of what makes painting outdoors so fun is when I find just the right location with just the Right tools provided by nature, offering me a relaxing painting session.  On this particular day, I was able to find a log to set up the canvas so that I could be eye level with the many smallcascading waterfalls.  Within a matter of a week, the water level at this location had dropped so low that the cascades had receded giving me a whole new landscape composition to study.

In the studio

Many of my plein air paintings, working studies and photography make their way back into the studio room as a source for reference while creating larger scale paintings.

The Beauty of Mother Nature

FROM AN EARLY AGE, I STARTED TO CARRY A SKETCHBOOK AND A SET OF WATERCOLOR PAINTS WHEREVER I WENT.  AT ONE POINT MY FAMILY RELOCATED TO A SMALL SEASIDE VILLAGE THAT ENABLED ME TO SPEND A LOT OF TIME JOURNALING BY THE OCEAN.

I was inspired to become an artist at an early agewhile watching my mother work on an oil painting. I could sense a peaceful joy in her while she was mixing the oil colors on her pallet and then touching the loaded brush onto canvas.
