In the 1988, I was awarded a three month Artist-in-Residency Award at the Woodstock School of Art in Woodstock, NY. It was during this residency that I began painting my large landscape series.  In the winter of 1989, four of these canvases were on display at the Macy's Herald Sq., 34th St. windows, NYC. The painting In Praise of All Things, was chosen for a 2 year installation exhibition at the American Embassy residency in Sarajevo, Bosnia through the Art in Embassy program, Washington, DC.

It was during the Kosovo War of 1999 that I began to paint the 'Warhorse/Warrior Series III'. My paintings tell an illustrated story of the wounded warrior coming home from battle in the Dark Ages and entering into the promise of the 21st Century.  In each new painting, his journey continues along the path towards healing and spiritual growth through the personification of his warhorse."

For several years, I spent all of my free time traveling to the edge of the ocean’s tidal pools in order to observe first hand the many details of life forms and colors found among the rocks.

In the late 1980’s, I spent my days alone in an old gardener’s cottage on the outskirts of a tropical rainforest in St. Croix, USVI. It was here that I would spend the heat of the day over the drafting table teaching myself how to paint botanicals. By 2000, I took a two year certificate program at the RISD in Natural Science Illustration.

Wanting to be outdoors, I find being a plein air painter is one of my favorite past times.

One major challenge for me was to be able to draw or paint the human figure. I was a terrible portrait and figure painter for many years until taking full time studio courses at the Art Student’s League of NY.
