ARTIST AT WORK
In the studio
Many of my plein air paintings, working studies and photography make their way back into the studio room as a source for reference while creating larger scale paintings.
At the drafting table
I fell in love with botanical illustration while residing in an old gardener's cottage in the USVA. Years later, I took a two year Natural Science Illustration Certificate program at the Rhode Island School of Design.
plein air painting
My favorite studio is the one outdoors. I mainly work on my own but enjoy meeting up with a local group of plein air painters.
MOTHER NATURE OFFERS SO MANY SUBJECTS TO OBSERVE AND PAINT.
THERE ARE MANY THINGS WHICH CAN INSPIRE ONE TO BECOME AN ARTIST. MY INSPIRATION STARTED AT A VERY EARLY AGE WHILE WATCHING MOM PAINT. IN MY PRE-TEENS, I SPENT MY SUMMERS AT A FAMILY MEMBER'S HORSE BARN. IT WAS HERE THAT I BEGAN TO TRY AND DRAW THE CONFIRMATION OF A HORSE. BY MY TEEN YEARS, I WAS FREE TO ROAM ON MY BICYCLE THROUGHOUT A SMALL SEASIDE TOWN IN NEW JERSEY. THERE WERE BEAUTIFUL MARSHES, BEACHES, FARM FIELDS AND SUNSETS TO OBSERVE AND PAINT.
